1.Wool Felted Slippers
Date and time:
May 29th, 5 pm – 9pm
May 30th, 12 pm – 5 pm
Address: Walker Ice and Fitness Center, 4151 Remembrance Road NW, Walker, MI 49534

I invite you to join my two-day workshop on wet-felting wool slippers.
This is a hands-on, step-by-step class where you will create your own pair of felted slippers — from laying out the wool to shaping and fitting the finished piece to your foot.
We will be working with very nice qulity New Zealand wool, and you’ll be able to choose from a range of colors to make your slippers truly personal and unique.
During the workshop, you will learn how to:
- properly lay out wool of two types (fine merino roving and carded Maiori batts)
- understand and calculate shrinkage rate
- shape and form a footwear piece
- work with templates (I will provide ready-made templates in your size and explain how to modify them later for different styles or sizes)
- practice the basics of wet felting and proper fitting
- decorate with yarn, silk or other materials
I will teach my own simplified felting method that allows you to create beautiful, comfortable, and durable slippers in less time and with less physical effort. Creating extremely dense, professional felt requires additional time and experience, so in this class we will focus on an efficient and approachable technique that still produces excellent results.
Plan to go home with a finished pair of slippers and a solid foundation of knowledge you can use in your future projects.
Workshop structure:
Day 1 — Introduction & Preparation
We will cover basic theory about wool, tools, and felting processes, discuss shrinkage rate, work with templates, and begin laying out the wool.
Day 2 — Full Practice
We will focus on wet felting, shrinking, shaping, and fitting the slippers directly to your feet.
Pricing:
— $120 for Woodland Weaver and Spinners Guild members
— $150 for non-members
The price includes all materials and use of tools during the workshop.
Bonus:
Each participant will receive access to my private 3-hour online slipper-felting course (a slightly more advanced level). You will be able to watch it anytime and keep access indefinitely.
Experience level:
Previous felting experience is helpful but not required. Beginners are very welcome — the most important thing is to be ready to listen, follow instructions, and enjoy the process. Please note:
Part of the process involves standing, walking, and occasionally bending while working. If you have back, hand, or any mobility concerns, please contact me before registering so we can discuss whether this class will be comfortable for you.
The only requirement: come in a good mood and be ready to work, learn, and have fun.
Please contact me to sign up or ask any question at Masha Kakhova (248) 556 68 39 or 4marikah@gmail.com

WHAT TO EXPECT AT MY CLASSES
Most classes will start at 10 am and end around 3 pm – come early to reserve a seat, have a coffee, and look at samples, tools and materials I usually bring to all my classes. Some classes go for 2 or more days.
I prefer a class with at least 5 students. The maximum number for students per class is 9 (rare it’s up to 12). I will be in touch a few weeks prior to class if I do not have the required number of students to discuss perhaps rescheduling the class.
What to wear – Please dress for the weather and in layers, but be ready to get your hands wet up to elbows, so short sleeves shirt as a first layer should be a good idea. Because, we will be working with very fine fibers, simple cotton tops are preferred to avoid statics and tanging.
Be ready to stand up – laying wool for wet felting and felting process itself may require standing up position for some time, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes and come rested. If you have any health issues related to your back, arms or hands, please consult with me before signing up for the class.
If you are a very beginner – I would suggest you to watch my “Introduction to Felting” videos that are published on my YouTube Channel “Felting with Marikah”
